Yes. Think of a tariff as a tax. When our lumber and Steel goes to the USA it gets an extra tax (tariff) that the American people pay. Same goes for many other products from other countries.
I don't see it as backing down by our government. There is more to this than meets our eyes as in what our government is negotiating/re-negotiating for all Canadians especially with CUSMA 2026 review and potential renegotiation coming up (https://www.csis.org/analysis/usmca-review-2026). Most Canadians already know that American products are taboo and we have found alternatives to said products. My hope is that all Canadians will continue with our 'Elbows Up' policy to spend minimal dollars on American goods. It is the consumer who holds the buying power. Let's spend our monies wisely.
I don’t know why I find these so confusing. So if the US is important, Canadian orange juice, the US consumers would be paying for is what I’m thinking after the importer paid it and the consumer pays what the upcharge was from the retailer, no?
I thought that tariffs were paid by the home country’s citizens ultimately, so it’s a good thing for Canada not to be tariff-ing another country. That way citizens are not paying extra for goods. No?
i do not think he is backing down. i think he has a plan and is playing the orange f*cker. let's hope. just don't stop buying canadian. and he's making it cheaper for us to buy products from the states that we can not get from canada.
